My name is Óscar Pacheco and I have spent my whole life among market stalls. For many years I travelled around the Region of Murcia with my family selling fruit and vegetables, and in that time I learned first-hand what these markets mean to the traders, to the shoppers and to the towns and cities that host them.
That is why, in 2012, I started Mercadillo Semanal: to give visibility to all those markets that deserve to be known and that bring so much life to their communities. The directory has kept growing ever since, with a single aim: that anyone can easily find the nearest market, check when it opens and feel like paying it a visit.
Because markets are tradition, they are a meeting place, they are family. And we want to keep helping them stay alive.
How we check the information
The directory covers thousands of markets all over Spain, and their details change: councils move them to new sites, adjust opening hours and cancel them on public holidays or because of roadworks. To keep everything up to date, this is how we work:
- Official sources first: municipal bylaws, town councils and official publications. When a listing relies on a specific source, we record it alongside the information.
- Visible verification date: reviewed listings show when the information was last checked, so you know how fresh it is.
- The community corrects: on every listing you can confirm with one tap whether the market still takes place as shown, and leave reviews and questions. Every contribution is checked before it is published.
- Continuous review: we give priority to the most visited listings and to those showing signs of change, so the markets with the most visitors are also the ones reviewed most often.
Even so, no directory is infallible: if you spot a mistake, the quickest way to fix it is to tell us from the listing itself or through the contact form.
