It is one of the reference markets of the Empordà: as the comarca's main town, it draws people every Monday from the surrounding villages, from L'Estartit up the road, and a sizeable share of French visitors. The fruit and vegetable stalls follow the season, and some bring organic produce and herbs from local growers, alongside pulses, nuts and honey. The spice stalls are among the best stocked in the market, backed up by herbalist and household goods. The side streets hold clothing and sportswear, shoes, bags, hats and beach towels, plus home textiles and a general bazaar of costume jewellery, perfume, kitchenware, tools and toys.

The market winds through squares and narrow streets, so you walk it slowly and there is always a terrace within reach. Numbers rise sharply in summer, but arriving before ten still leaves room to move.
