What is sold at the Calpe markets

Calpe market is the big one, and it is split in two. Avenida de Rumanía takes the bulk of it: men's, women's and children's fashion, sportswear and swimwear, shoes, bags and costume jewellery, plus household textiles, crockery, plants and cleaning products. The food is concentrated in the Calle Petit car park, next to the old town: fresh fruit and vegetables, cured meats, preserves, pastries and churros. Used goods are not allowed here; that is what the Calpe flea market is for, with 38 second-hand stalls on Avenida del País Valencià.

The night markets are a different thing: small craft fairs, with 22 stalls on the Infanta Elena promenade, beside Arenal-Bol beach, and 17 in Plaza del Mediterráneo. Both open from 18:00 to midnight; the one in the square starts on 1 June and the one on the promenade on the 13th.

Getting there and parking

On Saturdays Avenida de Rumanía is closed to traffic and parking nearby gets difficult. Leave the car on Avenida Juan Carlos I or on the free open ground towards La Fossa and walk in. There is paid street parking on Saturday mornings and reserved spaces for reduced mobility. Town bus routes L1, L2 and L3 stop close by (Gasolinera Repsol and Paraíso Mar), and the TRAM station is about 14 minutes on foot.

Tips for going

Saturday closes at 13:30 and by around 13:00 many stalls are already packing up: if you are going for food, go early. Take cash, because not every stall accepts cards or Bizum. If the Saturday is a public holiday the market moves to the previous working day; during the October fiestas, to the Friday or the working day before. The Wednesday flea market opens from 8:30 to 13:30.
