The Fira i Festes de Gandia is held in the days before 3 October, in honour of the town's patron saint, Francis Borgia.

The fair goes back to 1310, when James II granted the town the right to hold an annual market. Today that market is re-enacted as a medieval one through the old town, with traditional games and activities, music, theatre and street entertainment, while the funfair takes over the fairground.

Its best-known figure is the Tio de la Porra, a parody of a French soldier who marches the children out of the schools to the beat of a drum.
