It is one of the oldest markets in Catalonia: its founding charter dates back to 1279, and it is still the backbone of local trade in the Baix Empordà.

The route opens with food — fruit, vegetables, nuts, bread, cured meats and cheeses — which you can round out by crossing into the covered market. Then comes the busiest stretch: clothing and sportswear, shoes, underwear, bags, belts and costume jewellery. Home textiles and bazaar close the walk — curtains, bed linen, towels, kitchenware, plants, toys, gifts and household goods — with a churro stand at the far end.

The morning tails off as it goes: locals do their shopping first thing, before the bulk of the visitors arrive. Parking near Avinguda de Catalunya costs time on high-season Tuesdays, so allow yourself extra.
