Markets in Salou and surroundings

There are 4 markets in Salou. On Mondays the one in the centre, next to the town hall, with a hundred stalls; from June to September, every evening, the two craft markets on the Espigó and at the Masia Catalana; and five Sundays a year, the charity flea market.

The markets of Salou

Salou is on the Costa Daurada, in the province of Tarragona, between Cambrils and Vila-seca, the municipality La Pineda belongs to. Its main beaches are Llevant and Ponent, separated by the breakwater. It has four markets, and only one of them is a weekly one.

The Monday market is the big one: a hundred stalls on Carrer de l'Arquitecte Ubach and the surrounding streets, next to the town hall, from 9:00 to 14:00. It is almost all clothing, with seasonal garments of a strong beach slant, general footwear and stalls of bags and accessories. Do not come looking for crafts or one-off pieces: it is a market for a quick buy, with much the same goods repeated from stall to stall and prices that vary between traders. Walk the whole of it before deciding, and haggle, especially on single garments.

The two night markets are a different thing. The Espigó one gathers a dozen stalls of crafts and costume jewellery out on the breakwater, between the two beaches; the Masia Catalana one, ten wooden huts with crafts and gifts, at number 50 of Avinguda Carles Buïgas, in the tourist area of Llevant beach. Both open every evening from 19:00 to midnight between June and September, and they are an after-dinner stroll, not an alternative to Monday.

Two things before you go. Monday closes at 14:00, but packing up starts earlier: after 13:30 some stalls are already down, so go in the morning. And the opening and closing dates of the night markets shift by a few days each year around June and September, so at the start and the end of the season it is worth checking.

The flea market of Salou is the Mercadillo de segunda mano solidario, the Car Boot Sale that the Freesia Group runs five Sundays a year in the car park opposite the town hall, from 8:00 to 14:00 — more than 120 private sellers, no professional traders, and the takings go to cancer charities. For antiques proper you still have to go out to the Mercadillo de Antigüedades de Reus, about 9 km away: Saturdays, from 9:00 to 14:00.
