The s'Esplanada market is, in the town council's own words, the most long-established street market in Maó (Mahón) and the largest open-air one in the town. It is held on Tuesdays and Saturdays all year round in the Plaça de s'Esplanada, and adds Thursdays from June to September. The hours change with the season too: 8:30 to 14:00 from June to September and 9:30 to 13:00 the rest of the year.

What's on sale

The range is wide and varied: clothing, footwear, gifts, crafts and antiques, across sixty-eight stalls spread over the esplanade. Textiles are the dominant category, and the antiques and craft stalls add variety to a market that works above all as a practical shop.

Visiting the market

The square sits beside the bus station, which makes this the best-connected market on the island: the lines linking Maó with Ciutadella and the inland villages all arrive here. There is also underground parking on the esplanade itself. Saturdays draw the biggest crowds; Tuesday is quieter.
