Markets in Fuengirola

There are 5 markets in Fuengirola. On Tuesdays, the one at the Recinto Ferial fairground, the biggest with 470 stalls; on Saturdays, the flea market at that same site; and on Sundays, the Santa Amalia market. From June to September the night market on the seafront opens as well.

What day is the Fuengirola market?

Fuengirola is on the Costa del Sol, in the province of Málaga, between Benalmádena and Mijas. It has three morning markets and each one has its own day. The big one is on Tuesdays, at the Recinto Ferial fairground: around 470 stalls of clothes, shoes, bags, fruit and vegetables, nuts, hardware and household goods, 9:00–14:00. Many locals call it the Los Boliches market, because the fairground is in that neighbourhood, on Avenida Nuestro Padre Jesús Cautivo.

On Saturdays, at that same site and at the same hours, the flea market takes over, and it is nothing like the Tuesday one: around 300 stalls of second-hand goods, antiques and collectables — vintage clothing, books, vinyl, old toys, coins, watches — and crafts made by the seller. Selling new goods that are not handmade is forbidden, haggling is expected, and many traders keep the same pitch week after week. The flea market is on Saturday, not on Sunday.

On Sundays what there is is the Santa Amalia market, the neighbourhood one: 132 stalls on Calle Méndez Núñez, next to the mosque and Doña Sofía park, also 9:00–14:00. And from June to September the night market on Paseo Marítimo Rey de España opens as well, some ten stalls of crafts and costume jewellery from 20:00 to 2:00; it is an after-dinner stroll, not an alternative to the morning markets.

Two things before you go. The three morning markets close at 14:00 and the flea market packs up on time, so it is worth arriving before 13:00; the site has no shade and parking is hard in high season. And neither the Tuesday nor the Saturday market sets up when the fairground is hosting a fair: the Feria Internacional de los Pueblos in spring, the Carmen fiestas in mid-July, the Los Boliches fair in July and the Rosario fair in October. The Tuesday market does open on public holidays, except Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Epiphany.
