The Villa de Teguise market is set up on Sunday mornings in the old town of Lanzarote's former capital. It starts at the plaza de la Constitucion and spreads through the streets and squares of the centre. It began in March 1985, when a group of street traders put together a small market in the Villa, and it turned forty in 2025. The town council puts it at more than 450 stalls and an average of 10,000 visitors every Sunday, and it is the best known market in the Canary Islands.

What is sold

Crafts of every kind: ceramics, basketwork, leather goods and jewellery made from volcanic stone. On the food side, cheeses, island wines, mojo sauces, pastries and products made with aloe and cactus. Alongside them, clothing, accessories and souvenirs aimed at visitors, plus work by local and international artists who exhibit in the street and in the galleries of the old town.

What the visit is like

The morning includes traditional Canarian music and dance, and the museums of the Villa open the same day. It gets busy from mid-morning onwards, especially in the holiday season, so arriving before ten makes parking easier and lets you walk the stalls at your own pace. Part of the route is in full sun and not every trader takes cards. The council itself suggests coming back on a weekday to see the village in silence.
